CH HIGHBOURNE BO DEREK (N)

(Nitemarch The Gambler x Ch Nitemarch Miss Dapper)

14th April 1989 - 29th May 2003

The 29th of May marked the passing of one of our breed's greatest bitches, Craig and Judith Frazer's Ch Highbourne Bo Derek.
Dog showing, leaving aside the competitive nature of the sport, can give a great deal of pleasure to the casual observer. To see the truly great staffords, such as Bo Derek, at their peak can leave one with pleasurable memories that time can never erase. For myself, her performance at the April 1994 N.S.W. Stafford Show when she was the C.C. winner under the U.K. specialist Michael Clarke (Boldmore) was one of those occasions and those fortunate enough to be present witnessed something special on that day. Whilst this win might be overshadowed in terms of achievement by her previous two wins under Mike Homan and Alf Tittle it was at this show that she showed all the attributes and virtues of a true champion show dog. She left no doubt in the minds of the spectators who was the bet bitch out there. From the moment she entered the ring she demanded attention, given her head she was full of zest, always alert and up on her toes, displaying just enough fire without going overboard she showed all and sundry that there was only one bitch out there worthy of the challenge. Those present duly showed their appreciation by sustained applause for what was the most popular win of the day.

This was her third C.C. at the N.S.W. Stafford Show and her two Reserves won under Judy Daniels (USA) and Sarah Hemstock (UK) makes her the most successful bitch at N.S.W. Stafford Shows. As stated above her previous two wins were certainly more memorable in terms of achievement with her first C.C. and Best in Show coming whilst still a puppy under Mike Homan (Evaredee) in March 1990 and this followed up in April 1992 with another C.C. and Runner-up B.I.S. under Alf Tittle (Alpaka). The entry for this show of 240 was an Australian record entry and is still the record entry for a N.S.W. Stafford Show. Like her dam, Ch Nitemarch Miss Dapper, the foundation bitch of Highbourne kennels, she was also a C.C. winner at British Terrier winning under John Rowles and breed specialist Walter Bore (Merseyland).

Her grand dam was Ch Airdstock Kate Kelly that top quality bitch who rewrote the record books in the 1980's and like her, Bo Derek, although producing quality offspring, never produced anything in quite the same class as herself, however, her influence was passed on through her daughter sired by Ch Ourgang Boldjack Donahue, Highbourne Hollyofspring. This bitch produced another great champion in Gr Ch Highbourne Mummys Pet. When mated to Ch Leatherwood Iron Mike Mummys Pet produced Ch Highbourne Luskin Star, the country's most prolific winner at major shows for the last two years. Show ring success has been a feature of this line for twenty years and looks to continue well into the future.
